Focolare Regional Delegates Gather in Rome

  The annual meeting of Focolare delegates from around the world took place at the international headquarters of the Movement in Rocca di Papa, Italy (19 September – 9 October). They reflected on such topics as the Word of God, New Evangelization, the situation in the Middle East and in the Arab world, the African continent, inculturation, and the youth. As usual, the meeting began with three days of spiritual retreat, focused on the Word of God, one of the points of Chiara Lubich’s spirituality which will characterize the life of the Movement’s members during the coming year. Mariapolis Peace

In 1982, the foundress of the Focolare Movement, Chiara Lubich, came to visit the Philippines.

During one of her meetings with the members of the movement, particularly in the Development Academy of the Philippines in Tagaytay City, she told them that she has a dream.

It’s a dream she’s doing with open eyes. Her dream was to build a little “city” where the only law is the commandment of Jesus: “Love one another as I have loved you.."

For Chiara, this “Permanent Mariapolis” was to be a place of dialogue with other religions—whence came the name “Mariapolis Peace.”
